About Tinnitus Sounds
Who built this
My name is Marcel Iseli. I’m an entrepreneur based in Switzerland, and I’ve been living with tinnitus since I was around 20 years old. I’m now 41 — so that’s over two decades of the ringing.
For a long time I assumed it was just part of life. I worked as a DJ for years, which probably didn’t help. But looking back, stress was likely the original trigger. The ringing tends to get louder when I’m under pressure — a pattern a lot of tinnitus sufferers will recognise immediately.
Why I built the app
I know firsthand how disruptive tinnitus can be — particularly at night, when the room goes quiet and there’s nothing to compete with the ringing. I spent years trying different sounds: fans, white noise generators, YouTube videos that cut out mid-sleep. None of it was built with tinnitus specifically in mind.
So I built Tinnitus Sounds — the app I wished had existed when I first started looking for something that worked. It’s not a medical device and it won’t cure tinnitus. But it delivers the right sounds, in the right formats, for the specific challenge of sleeping and focusing with tinnitus.
What this site is
The content on this site is written to help tinnitus sufferers understand the acoustic approaches — masking, habituation, notched therapy — that have the strongest evidence base. I’m not a medical professional, and nothing here should be taken as medical advice. If your tinnitus is severe or sudden-onset, please see a doctor.
For everything else — understanding which sounds help, why they work, and how to build a daily routine that reduces the impact of tinnitus — I hope what’s here is useful.
